Rain Cloud in a Jar

Looking for something fun and engaging to do at home? Try making a rain cloud in a jar. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Shaving Cream
  • Water
  • Glass jar or clear plastic container (something tall works great)
  • Liquid Water Color

Fill your container with water. You don’t need to fill it to the top, but the more you have the longer it will take the color to reach the bottom. Add shaving cream to the top. The more you have, the longer it will take the color or “rain” to come down.

Add the color. The amount you’ll use will vary depending on the amount of shaving cream. You’ll start to see streams of color falling from the “cloud.” Not only is this fun, but it’s a good way to talk about weather, and how rain falls through the clouds. Use a single color, or make a rainbow.
