Happy New Year from Kidspace
Dear Friends of Kidspace,
My original start date as the new CEO of Kidspace fell during our popular Butterfly Celebration, which seemed like a good enough metaphor for the change I was preparing to make. But somewhere between the handshake and the start date, the world turned upside down.
The butterflies were released quietly this year, from the individual backyards of Kidspace staff, friends, and members. When I go onsite today, the campus is so quiet and empty, I often bring a dog along for company. Yet, the core work of Kidspace continues. This year we helped thousands of families celebrate Halloween creatively and joyfully; taught online STEAM classes for LAUSD; and adapted our programs, operations, website, and infrastructure to prepare for reopening next year.
In the ten months we’ve been closed, I’ve learned to think about the butterfly metaphor from a different angle; from the viewpoint inside the chrysalis, where change must happen. When we reopen in 2021, Kidspace will be more inclusive, more creative, and more accessible than ever before, with expanded educational programs onsite and online in the arts, STEAM, and local wildlife conservation.
Thank you for walking beside us through this challenging year. We are all grateful for the generosity of our friends and supporters, who have been a lifeline while we have no other sources of revenue. Everything we are working so hard to become is only possible because of you.
Thank you, and I look forward welcoming you back to Kidspace soon.
