Tierra del Sol Artist Workshop
July 13, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Tap into Dreaming!
Kidspace is proud to host this unique artists workshop, developed and led by artists from Tierra del Sol.
Tap into dreaming with Tierra del Sol artists Aracely Ellis and Leul Asfaw to create kaleidoscope scenes, shapes, figures, lines, dots, and marks to express a dream world that inspires new possibilities and realities.
Ellis and Asfaw create kaleidoscope scenes and landscapes that dream of possibilities and awaken the imagination. Whether playful or simply imaginative, their works make and hold space for place-making that feels inviting and capable of containing stories of the past, present, and future. Inspired by the exhibit Dream/World, these Tierra del Sol artists will guide visitors in creating dream worlds of their own with colored pencils, markers, paper, and paint.
July 13 and August 10, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
Free with Kidspace admission

About the Artists
Leul Asfaw creates lush land- and cityscapes that reflect his travels and interests. His scenes include animals, people, and the plains and mountain ranges of California—finding great beauty in endless skylines and the variety of clouds. His repetitive strikes of colored pencil on paper make short vertical lines that register color fields and gradients, creating densely saturated views with subtle luminosity. His process is time-consuming and methodical and speaks to the poetry of repetition and familiarity.
Leul Asfaw’s debut solo show, The Storm Clouds Are Leaving, was exhibited at Tierra del Sol Gallery in summer 2022. Asfaw was included in Space Is the Place, a group exhibition curated by Alison Saar in 2023.
Aracely Ellis has been making art at Tierra del Sol since 2020. She has been dancing since she was four years old. Her passion for dance deeply informs her paintings, drawings, and fashion designs. As in dance, Ellis’s visual practice is founded on an exploration of movement. She fondly remembers becoming interested in fashion when ordering customized costumes for her dance performances. Her designs prioritize movement. She selects her fabrics for ease of motion and flexibility, whether the design is for dancing or for everyday wear.
Aracely Ellis has exhibited her artwork at Tierra del Sol Gallery in West Hollywood and at Kidspace Museum in Pasadena.
