Miguel Salazar, Animal Programs Coordinator, has been with Kidspace Children’s Museum since 2018. He came to work here after a 23 year career in the Veterinary field. His hobby has always been keeping and caring for exotic animals, especially reptiles which he has kept and bred for over 35 years. He attained his Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona. Miguel’s favorite Kidspace exhibit is the Observation Beehive.

Meet Our Eastern Box Turtle: Sherman

 

Where is the Eastern Box Turtle from?

 

They are found throughout the eastern United States, from Maine down to Florida, and the eastern regions of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas. Their habitat includes a variety of vegetative areas that are often found near ponds, streams, or areas that experience heavy rainfall.

 

Why are they called a “box turtles”?

Where is the Southern Alligator Lizard from?

 

It is a common lizard that can be found throughout the Pacific coast, (Washington, Oregon, California, and northern Baja California). They can be found in a variety of habitats which include grasslands, chaparral, and woodlands. Alligator lizards are also commonly found living in suburban area yards and garages.
